How To Ace a Real Estate Financial Modeling Excel Exam // The real estate hiring process tends to be a pretty long road, with multiple rounds of phone screenings, in-person interviews, and meetings with people you may not even end up working with on a day-to-day basis on the job.

And at the end of this process, to make sure your skill set is everything that was advertised, companies will often throw in some variation of a timed real estate financial modeling Excel exam, usually consisting of a case study for a sample real estate investment or development project that might represent something you would work on, on the job.

So in this video, to help prepare you for that real estate financial modeling Excel exam if one is thrown your way, we’re going to walk through a few big things you can do to pass with flying colors, and what you should be doing to set yourself apart from the competition.

Justin. In an instance where someone is tested on excel in an interview for real estate modeling, is the interviewe expected to create the entire financial model excel spreadsheet on the spot, or can one use a generic model that would new institutional level standards

Hey Justin, just finished your CRE financial modeling interview guide and its helped alot. I was wondering though, was the type of model covered within that course a DCF model? If not, do you have a course that covers Real Estate DCF modeling? Thanks man

Hey Justin! I am 21 years old and want to start building my own RE portfolio. I will be buying my first investment property (single family or small multifamily) sometime in 2021. Which of your courses would you recommend for a beginning RE investor? I currently work in accounting, but my eventual goal is to grow my RE portfolio into a full-time investment/development business. I have no training or experience in RE, so I'm looking to learn the fundamentals and become my own "analyst" essentially. Thanks!

Your spreadsheets are super clean and aesthetically pleasing, however, my guess is that this quality is rare lol. BTW, what does "SF" stand for? For example, "Property SF"? Thanks!

Hey Justin, interest rates seem unreasonably low and I fear a big correction will come about right when I get out of college with my real estate degree. I think you mentioned you got out of college in the midst of the 2008 recession. How worried should I be about finding work in real estate field if we are in a Recession?

Justin – Do you have any PC Desktop/Laptop recommendations for modeling in excel. I'm currently training on MAC, but being that the industry standard is windows I feel that I may be wasting effort. Any recommendations on computer specs needed to run advanced excel models comfortably? (RAM, Core, processing speed)
